THE BIG WOOD THINGS
These large structures have suddenly materialised all over town and they take many strange forms.....
Experts are mystified. It is possible that the wood comprises old breakwaters hauled several yards from the beach but no-one yet knows how Canterbury City Council could have achieved such a massive undertaking in a coastal region so remote from the city centre. Like the great stones of Easter Island, it is thought that extra-terrestrials may be involved. Even more curious is the fact that, if you sit in "The Big Wood Seat of the Horsebridge" at noon on the solstice and twist your head to the left, you can see Leysdown on the Isle of Sheppey. However, if you sit in the same seat on a fog bound day in November, you CAN'T see Leysdown. For the time being, the significance of this remains a mystery but it does seem that it is more interesting to sit on the seat in November than at the time of the solstice. Answers to the mystery may yet be found in the engravings that augment the wood. Already, progress has been made in this area and it is now thought that carvings of fish, seagulls and other maritime entities are the work of the original creators of The Big Wood Things. However, other messages (such as "Sharon loves Jason" and "MUFC") may have been added more recently by a much lower form of life. It all adds up to one of the world's great mysteries.... one that may never be fully explained.
