THE WIRE MAN
Hey, this has suddenly materialised alongside the Tesco superstore at
the junction of Millstrood Road and South Street. It is obviously
intended to mark the beginning of the cycle track that now follows the
old railway line from South Street to Old Bridge Road.
We have no problem in declaring it to be art on the basis of our
recent re-definition:
| "Art is something painted, sculpted
or otherwise arranged so that the end product is no worse than
the original raw materials". |
The new arrival has been sculpted and the end product is an
improvement on the tubes from which it was made. Nonetheless, it does
need some clarification.
There are no prizes for guessing that it is a cyclist. However, the
gender is more difficult.
Despite the shapely legs and the shopping basket, we feel that it is
probably male.... for three reasons. Firstly, women can see clean
through him. Secondly, he is riding away from the supermarket with an
empty basket. Thirdly, he is sitting on a penny and a farthing rather
than a couple of credit cards.
Sadly, he is a confused man. His bike has obviously been shipped in
from the late 19th Century but his cycling helmet is clearly "new
millennium". He may also have been drinking as he obviously has a
tendency to stray off the cycle track and onto the lawn.
Still, I think we can put up with him for a while.
