This dramatic shot was very kindly supplied by Terry Moxley of  The County Group Estate Agents. It was taken by Terry himself and features Russell (his son) and Peter Dodds Jnr in Russell's speedboat.

For those unfamiliar with Whitstable, I should explain that the Forts are located in the Thames estuary off the coast of Tankerton and were built as a defence measure during World War II. They have now become a familiar part of the skyline and can be seen from Tankerton slopes... albeit in the distance.

This photo is unusual in that it provides a rare opportunity to see the structure "close up". It also stirs a few memories..... so here I go again!

The last time I saw a shot like this was back in the "sixties"..... when ITV filmed an episode of Danger Man  at the Forts. Danger Man was of course a "James Bond" character played by Patrick McGoohan who later directed and starred in the cult series The Prisoner.

The sixties also added another chapter to the history of the forts when the late Screaming Lord Sutch used them as a base for Radio Sutch.... one of a handful of pirate radio stations that kept the swinging years swinging.

Shut me up somebody.......
