Rail Routes & Directions from the  Station

Whitstable is served by a railway station on the North Kent line.

Most trains run from London Victoria to Margate or Ramsgate via Chatham.

Take care in choosing your train. The "via Chatham" description used above is vital. There is another route to Margate and Ramsgate. that meanders through the centre of Kent missing the North Kent coast  and Whitstable altogether!

Another point to watch is that some trains may divide at Faversham with only half the coaches making their way down the North Kent coast. (The other half head off to Dover). Make sure that you are sitting in the correct portion!

Yet another possibility is that you may be expected to change at Faversham. Check very carefully at Victoria.

On arrival at Whitstable station follow the directions below.

To Start

Most of the main areas of the town are located north of the rail track. This is fine if you arrive from London as the platform is on the correct side.

If you arrive from the Isle of Thanet, you will need to exit the station, turn left and use the public footbridge at the bottom of the station approach road.

To the Town Centre

Follow the blue arrows - eastward along Railway Avenue and Cromwell Road. At the junction with Oxford Street turn right for the High Street, Harbour Street and beach. Turn left for Canterbury Road.

To the Harbour

Follow the yellow arrows - eastward along Railway Avenue and North along Cromwell Road.

To Tankerton

Follow the green arrows up the hill at Teynham Road and turn left into Castle Road. The road eventually descends to a "five way" road junction. Take the route at the "2 o'clock position (ie Kingsdown Park). This leads to the roundabout at Tankerton Circus.
