Over the centuries, Whitstable's sunsets have
inspired many artists.... including Turner. However, you won't necessarily
see much of the town in Turner's works. It is believed that he
superimposed other seascapes over the top of our sunsets!
Here we include a small selection of our own pictures. We have tried to
present samples of the very many different types of sunset - ranging from
the steel-blue of late winter to the more familiar golden glow of summer.
Even so, we could never cover all the variations that nature provides.
We must also admit that we do not
really have the equipment or the photographic expertise to capture such
stunning moments. So, why not come to the town and see it all for 'real'.
Grab a glass of something from the Pearsons Crab & Oyster House or
the Neptune Pub, sit on the sea wall and let nature paint the
picture.
